Picadillo
Picadillo is one of the most popular Cuban dishes. Spice it up with hot peppers or hot pepper sauce if desired.

Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp (25 mL) olive oil
- 1-1/2 lb (750 g) Ontario Lean Ground Beef
- 1 cup (250 mL) chopped Ontario Onion
- 3/4 cup (175 mL) each chopped Ontario Sweet Red and Yellow Peppers
- 2 cloves Ontario Garlic, minced
- 1/3 cup (75 mL) tomato paste
- 1 tbsp (15 mL) ground cumin
- 2 tsp (10 mL) dried oregano
- 3 cups (500 mL) cubed (1/2-inch/1 cm) peeled Ontario Potatoes
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) golden raisins
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) pimento-stuffed whole green olives (optional)
- Salt and pepper
Preparation:
In Dutch oven, heat 1 tbsp (15 mL) of the oil over medium heat. Add beef and cook until no longer pink. Stir in onion, red and yellow peppers and garlic; cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes or until onions become soft. Stir in tomato paste, cumin and oregano; cook for 1 minute. Stir in tomatoes and broth. Cover and cook for 10 minutes.
In large nonstick skillet, heat remaining oil over medium heat. Add potatoes and cook, stirring, until tender and golden, for 15 to 20 minutes
Stir potatoes, raisins and olives into beef mixture; cook for 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
