Building awareness of Ontario foods
Foodland Ontario’s Retail Services program creates in-store consumer awareness of Ontario fruits and vegetables and other fresh foods, such as meat, eggs and dairy. These promotional efforts contribute to Ontario’s economy by encouraging consumers to seek out and buy Ontario-produced fresh foods.
Promoting Ontario in-store
Foodland Ontario’s retail merchandising representatives call on more than 1,200 grocery stores annually throughout the province, placing point-of-sale materials to foster consumer recognition of Ontario products. On average, Foodland Ontario places 42 pieces of point-of-sale materials in each store. Those numbers really add up: in 2010, Foodland Ontario distributed more than 335,000 pieces of point-of-sale materials in-store and 85,000 linear feet of base wrap for decorating display tables—that’s more than 47 times taller than the CN Tower! Each year, Foodland Ontario also places approximately 15,000 “Gimme 5” signage cards to encourage consumers to eat more fruits and vegetables. These cards support Ontario growers, the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.Generating retail interest
In partnership with grower groups, Foodland Ontario runs annual retail contests to encourage retailers to showcase fresh Ontario produce in their stores using prominent displays and creative promotions.
