Cinnamon Applesauce
This fresh-tasting applesauce is delicious hot or cold. Spiced with cinnamon, it's equally at home as a dessert or tart accompaniment to pork.
Cooking Time: 20 Minutes or 12 Minutes in the Microwave
Servings: 4 cups (1 L)
Ingredients:
- 6 Ontario McIntosh Apples, cut in eighths
- 1-1/2 cups (375 mL) water
- 1/4 cup (50 mL) granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp (2 mL) cinnamon
Preparation:
In large saucepan, combine apples and water. Cover and bring to boil over high heat. Reduce heat to simmer and cook, covered, for 15 minutes or until apples are tender. Remove from heat; pass apples through sieve or food mill into bowl to remove seeds and skin. Stir in sugar and cinnamon.
Microwave Instructions:
In large microwave-safe bowl, combine apples and water. Cook, covered, at High for 12 minutes, stirring twice, until apples are tender. Continue as above.
Freezing Instructions:
Applesauce may be frozen for up to three months. Use an air-tight container, leaving 1-inch (2.5 cm) headspace.
NOTE: Microwave recipes tested in a 700-watt microwave oven. Power level terminology in microwave ovens varies; check your owner's manual and use whichever word or number gives you the same percentages as in the recipe (High is always 100%). If your oven differs, cooking times may vary.
