Apple & Cream Cheese Pie

Use your favourite Ontario apples in this pie for a scrumptious autumn treat.

 
Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 to 35 minutes
  Serves 8
Pastry Ingredients  
Pastry for 1 - 9 inch (23 cm) crust For the Tenderflake Perfect Pastry pie
crust, please follow the Six Easy Steps
recipe found on packages of Tenderflake
Lard.
Filling Ingredients  
2 pkgs (each 8 oz/250 g) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup (125 mL) granulated sugar
2 Ontario Eggs
1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla
4 cups (1 L) Ontario Cooking Apples cored, peeled and sliced
1/3 cup (75 mL) ReaLemon® lemon juice
1/3 cup (75 mL) granulated sugar
1/2 tsp (2 mL) cinnamon

Roll out pastry and fit into a deep dish 9-inch (23 cm) pie plate. Trim and flute edge. Beat together cream cheese and 1/2 cup (125 mL) sugar until smooth, gradually beating in eggs and vanilla. Pour into pastry lined pie plate. Toss apples with lemon juice. Combine 1/3 cup (75 mL) sugar and cinnamon and toss with apple slices. Arrange apples in overlapping circles on top of cheese mixture. Bake in a preheated 450°F (230°C) oven for 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 400°F (200°C) and continue baking for 20 to 25 minutes or until apples are tender, pastry is golden and cheese mixture is almost set. Serve at room temperature or chilled.

Tips

  • Certain Ontario Eating Apples, such as McIntosh, can be used.
